wildlife wardenParish Wildlife Wardens

Wardens: Phillip Claydon & John Shenkman

With ever increasing pressure being placed on our natural environment, the role of the wardens is to record & monitor the wildlife and habitats that exist, and find ways to protect and improve.

The wardens are involved in raising the awareness of the community to the large variety of wildlife that shares the village with us, and to involve the local community of Long Itchington, Bascote & Bascote Heath in active ways to help make the parish a much more welcoming place for wildlife to live.

The wardens are helping to find ways to improve the village pond for wildlife without affecting the enjoyment the pond provides. One way has been raising awareness of how the health of the ducks can be improved. When feeding the ducks bread provides little nutrition and can lead to malnutrition and health problems, so please use alternatives such as bird seed, barley oats and other grains, but only in moderation.
