On a sunny morning representatives from the village, and Stratford upon Avon District Council gathered in the field opposite Long Itchington Primary School to witness the turning of the first turf for the new housing development.
Derrick Dyas, the chairman of Warwickshire Rural Housing Association, explained that the development would contain eight affordable homes and two houses for shared ownership.
The building of the homes is part of a joint venture between Warwickshire Rural Housing Association, Stratford District Council and the Parish Council.
After the ceremony we moved to the Community Centre for refreshments followed by Derrick Dyas presenting cheques to the Youth Club and the Long Itchington Education Foundation (L.I.E.F.).
The Youth Club received a cheque for £1,000, a television and an X-box. These will greatly improve Youth Club Facilities. Nicola Bodfish (youth club leader), Silke Moore, who assists, and four children who attend the youth club, were there to receive the donations.
Andy Jack from L.I.E.F. accepted a cheque for £1,500 from Derrick. Andrew explained that the money will assist the Foundation in helping the young people of the village.
